DETAILS: The captain of a yacht on a mooring was awakened by noise at 0400HRS, and investigated. Two men were outside his cockpit door and when challenged claimed to be “just fishing because they thought the boat was empty”. They did not have any fishing gear, only backpacks. The men left immediately without incident in a small rowboat.

A report was made the next day to the Coast Guard and Port Captain, who indicated they had suspects and that there had been boardings/theft on several local dive boats the same night.

DETAILS: For three weeks a yacht’s dinghy/outboard was pulled ashore well above the tide line at 6PM and left unlocked in downtown George Town while the owners went to the weekly happy hour nearby. When they returned at 8PM the dinghy/outboard had been stolen. A police report was filed by phone. Owners advise locking to the Lobster Pot dive center dock instead.

Power Boat stolen from Grand Cayman Islands

(DATE: 2014-01-03) “REEL NAUTI”, a 2005 30′ Concept with twin 250 H.P. Mercury engines, was reported stolen from Grand Cayman Islands on or about January 3, 2014.  The hull is white with matching multi-color graphics and the vessel’s name, “REEL NAUTI,” written in black letters on both sides.  The interior is white with blue seats.  There is a blue canvas attached to a white frame above the center console.  The HIN is DDXP F638 H405.  The vessel was previously registered in Florida under number FL 8303 MS.  The twin 250 H.P. Mercury engines have model/serial numbers: (P) CXL VER/1B056743 and (S) 250 LVER/1B056758.  The theft was reported to the George Town Police under report number 2014-000314.  Please report any sightings to any law enforcement agency and the Safety and Security Net.
