The owner returned to find that the locking cable securing the outboard had been cut, and the 5HP Yamaha outboard stolen. ID: 2658
DATE: 2020-09-16 16:00 LOCATION: Curaçao (the Netherlands) – Spanish Water – anchorage EVENT: Theft HAND: 1 STOLEN ITEMS: Dinghy fuel tank SECURED: Locked DETAILS: A dinghy was cable locked to the dinghy dock at the Fisherman’s marina in Spanish Waters. When the owners returned at 2130 , the cable had been cut and the dinghy was adrift 30 meters away. The cable also secured the fuel tank, which was stolen. There is a security guard on premises who sits adjacent to the dinghy dock. When queried, he reported that earlier someone had taken several tanks and he recorded the license plate of the vehicle. When asked by the victim, he called the police and reported the license number of the vehicle involved.
Additionally, 2 other dinghies had fuel tanks stolen that night, and also a fuel line from a third dinghy. ID: 2540
DATE: 2020-09-07 17:00 LOCATION: Curaçao (the Netherlands) – Spanish Water – anchorage EVENT: Theft HAND: 1 STOLEN ITEMS: 20HP Yamaha outboard engine SECURED: Locked DETAILS: Owners left their dinghy chain locked to the small dinghy dock at the southwestern end of anchorage “C” in Spanish Waters during daylight hours. On their return less than an hour later they found that the 20HP Yamaha outboard that had been padlocked to the dinghy had been stolen. The police took a report but did no forensics. ID: 2528
DATE: 2018-11-28 14:00 Country Name: Curacao Location Detail: Spanish Water EVENT: Attempted theft HAND: 1 Stolen Items: none – not successful SECURED: Locked DETAILS: A dinghy was well locked to the dock at the Pirates Nest from 1-4 PM while owners were ashore to check out. When they returned they found one side of a link of the 10 mm stainless steel chain had been cut through with bolt cutters, and incomplete cuts were made on the other side of the same link. The yacht departed early the next morning, as planned. A report was made on the VHF net.
