DETAILS: Cruisers anchored in the lagoon awoke at 0150HRS to sounds on their aft deck. A thief had boarded and was attempting to lower their raised and tied off dinghy/outboard. They began banging on the ceiling of their aft cabin and the thief aborted his efforts and jumped back in his dinghy and drifted a short way off while claiming he “needed gas”.

The cruisers used a spot light to light up the scene and began recording video. The thief had a second dinghy already in tow and departed the lagoon via the Sandy Ground bridge. (see 3281) A report was made on the VHF net the next morning, where another cruiser confirmed their dinghy had been stolen overnight. A police report was made and the video provided to authorities.

DETAILS: Video surveillance recorded the theft of the locked Carolina skiff/ 18HP Nissan dinghy from the Island Water World dock.

It was recovered in good condition with the outboard the next day.

STOLEN ITEMS: mastless catamaran stolen and then crashed into the Sandy Ground bridge.

DETAILS: After the police departed from the monohull that had reported the assault, (see 3190) the 5 men stole an unoccupied and mast-less catamaran from a nearby dock. They crashed it into the Sandy Ground bridge trying to leave the lagoon, and abandoned it there. A police report was made.
