DETAILS: The burglary of an unoccupied yacht on a mooring the anchorage was discovered by the absent owner’s friends. Details are not complete, but a police report was made on the owners behalf.

DETAILS: Overnight, thieves boarded an unoccupied yacht on a mooring near the marina dock. They used a hacksaw/blade to cleanly cut the padlock that locked the transom clamps to each other while the 15HP Yamaha was mounted on the stern pulpit. The lock remains were left in the cockpit, where a similar lock secured the cabin companionway. The fuel tank remained in the cockpit, and was not taken. A report was made to the police, port captain, marina and announced on the VHF net.

DETAILS: During daylight hours between 10:15 and 11:30 AM an unlocked cruising catamaran on a private 2 yacht floating dock along the mangroves south of the Puerto Blanco marina was boarded and ransacked. The thief used a knife found on the yacht to defeat the locked safe and stole cash, jewelry and a credit card. Wet footprints were found throughout the yacht. A report was made to the police, port captain and coast guard as well as the tourism representative. The police visited the yacht and collected some forensics a few days later and currently have some suspects in custody.

CSSN NOTE: This is the 7th boarding/incident in this bay in the last 6 months. We will update this report as additional information about successful prosecution is provided by the victims.

DETAILS: A thief broke the companionway hasp to gain entry to a locked yacht in the bay between 7-9PM. An alarm was triggered and this apparently startled the thief and scared them away. Nothing was taken. A report was made to the (tourist) police.

DETAILS: A yacht on a mooring in the bay was burglarized between 6-10PM while the crew was ashore. The thief broke into the boat via the companionway door. Cash and jewellery were stolen. Reports were made to all authorities – The Navy/commandante, the police and the tourist police. No forensics were conducted.

CSSN NOTE: This is the 6th report of boarding/break-in from Luperon bay in 2020. Cruisers and the Navy have begun nighttime patrols.
