CSSN Sources in Rodney Bay Marina (RBM), St Lucia report increased security arrangements by marina management. There have been increasing incident reports in St Lucia, which have prompted action.
The marina manager recently returned to RBM following Christmas break and is aware of the various security breaches, within the marina.
Here are the Specifics:
- The number of security guards has been significantly increased; and night patrols within the marina have been stepped up making the land border more secure.
- The main security gate has been inoperative since the beginning of November. It is
anticipated that within the near future security technicians will convert the mechanism from “punch card” to ” smart card”. There is a security guard, at the gate, 24/7.
- The waterway, which joins the Cut (the access channel into the marina from Rodney Bay Anchorage) and the Inner Lagoon, which runs N-S along the western aspect of the marina, will be
monitored. At least one Infra-red camera will be installed at the junction of “E” and “F” docks, which run along the waterway, with fibre-optic cable linking the camera to an observation room. Movement along the water channel after dark will be observed live and recorded. Any suspicious activity will be reported to the security guards, who will be required to investigate.

CSSN Note: We hope these measures will be sustainable and reduce or eliminate the crime against yachts in RMB . We know that given enough time and opportunity, criminals can eventually defeat most countermeasures. Sustainable effort (and expense) is required to stay one step ahead on the vessel or onshore.
